Burning Daylight, Andrew Hook

The middle of things – extract from Andrew Hook’s Burning Daylight – a dark short full of imagery, a little like looking at a surrealist painting in words.

“Finally, after what seemed like a decade, all activity in the gym settled, the lights turned off, and I dozed and dreamt.

I graduated. Celebrated. Courted. Loved. Worked. Partied. Copulated. Married. Conceived. Copulated. Conceived. Raised. Celebrated. Travelled. Aged. Lost. Failed. Slid. Fell. Suffered. Gasped. Died.

I woke. Years had passed.”
